Wild Goose Chase

My concern with the CO2 alarmists (apart from their never-stated base motive outlined by Wildavsky as per yesterday's post) is that as a species we have stopped looking for an alternative cause and thus we are expending the human species last breath chasing a symptom instead of determining the truth behind the warming and developing an appropriate response.

Global Warming Scare

Consider the quote attributed (in the early 1990s) to Aaron Wildavsky, which noted the implications of decarbonisation. It is believed that he said “Global warming is the mother of environmental scares. In the scope of its consequences for life on planet Earth and the immense size of its remedies, global warming dwarfs all the environmental and safety scares of our time put together. Warming (and warming alone), through its primary antidote of withdrawing carbon from production and consumption, is capable of realizing the environmentalist’s dream of an egalitarian society based on rejection of economic growth in favour of a smaller population’s eating lower on the food chain, consuming a lot less, and sharing a much lower level of resources much more equally.”

Water vapor warms the atmosphere

The Sun caused the initial warming of the oceans which altered the liquid/gas equilibrium which resulted in a consequential increase in the atmospheric concentration of both water vapor (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2). Water vapor is present in the atmosphere at up to 40,000ppm compared with a paltry 380ppm for carbon dioxide and the IPCC report admits that Water Vapor has a much stronger greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide. Thus the warming that has occurred in the past decade or so is entirely consistent with greenhouse gas warming, but the important distinction is that the increased atmospheric concentration of greenhouse gases (principally H2O and CO2) was caused by the heightened solar activity (recently at a level not seen for 8,000 years) NOT by any action on the part of the human race.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the basis of all life forms on planet earth - it is neither the global warming culprit nor the enemy of our environment.
